APC Sweeps Chairmanship in Epe, Eredo, Ibeju‑Lekki as LASIEC Declares Winners

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) today announced that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured the chairmanship seats in three high-profile local government areas—Epe, Eredo, and Ibeju‑Lekki—during the July 12 local government polls.
In Epe LGA, Sura Olayemi Animashaun emerged victorious. She had earlier won the APC primary and was the party’s candidate for the chairmanship contest.
In Ibeju‑Lekki, Sesan Olowa, who previously secured the APC candidacy among 54 aspirants in a May 10 primary, has also been confirmed the election’s winner by LASIEC.
In Eredo LCDA, Monsuru Ismail, endorsed during the same primary exercise, has been declared the overall winner for the chairmanship position.
These outcomes are part of a broader dominance by the APC, which is reported to have captured all 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs across Lagos State in the chairmanship and councillorship elections.
LASIEC had allocated July 12 for the elections of chairmen, vice-chairmen, and councillors in the state’s 57 councils, with a scheduled re-run for July 19 where necessary. Ahead of the polls, the commission emphasized its commitment to a transparent and credible process, though some groups voiced concerns over insufficient voter education and transparency.
The sweep in Epe, Eredo, and Ibeju‑Lekki solidifies the APC’s firmhold on Lagos politics, particularly in strategically significant areas. Ibeju‑Lekki, notably, is home to emerging infrastructure projects, including the Lekki Deep Sea Port and a planned international airport.
With these chairmanship positions secured, political watchers anticipate that elected chairmen will soon assume office. Meanwhile, civil society groups and opposition parties may closely scrutinize the conduct and transparency of LASIEC’s process as local governance and service delivery become the next focus.
