2027: No Member Joining Any Coalition in Yobe, Says PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Yobe State has denied claims that its members are aligning with any political coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections. Addressing journalists in Damaturu, the state capital, Yobe PDP Chairman, Senator Umar El-Gash, described the reports as false and misleading. He said the party’s structure remains intact across all wards and local government areas, and no executive member has joined any coalition or alternative political platform. “There is no truth in the rumour that members of the PDP in Yobe have joined a coalition or political alliance. This misinformation is being spread by mischief-makers who are uncomfortable with the renewed energy and unity within our party,” El-Gash stated. He noted that recent internal reforms and the exit of some members have helped to reposition the party for growth and electoral victory in 2027. In a related development, the Director of PDP Support Groups in Yobe, Lawan Munkaila, said no official of the party has defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), as widely speculated. He dismissed the reports as a calculated attempt to create confusion. “The names being circulated are not part of the PDP’s leadership structure in the state. No ward, local government, or state official has left the party,” he said. The state PDP Publicity Secretary, Salihu Mohammed Baba, also reaffirmed the party’s unity and strength. According to him, the departure of certain individuals has brought about improved cohesion and discipline within the party. “In every organisation, there comes a time when it must rid itself of saboteurs. Those who have left did not believe in the PDP’s ideology of transparency, equity, and service to the people. We are now more united than ever,” he said. The PDP’s position in Yobe aligns with the party’s national stance. Earlier this year, the PDP Governors’ Forum ruled out any coalition or merger ahead of the 2027 elections, stating the party would remain independent while remaining open to new members.
