Thousands of Osun PDP Members Reject ADC

Over a thousand members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State have forsaken the African Democratic Party (ADC) in favor of the All Progressives Congress (APC), expressing their allegiance to the APC-led government in the nation.

This development coincides with Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, an APC stalwart in the state, announcing his intention to pursue the party’s gubernatorial nomination, asserting that Governor Ademola Adeleke’s attempts to join the APC pose no threat to his aspirations.

The defectors, predominantly supporters of Dr. Ogunbiyi from his time in the PDP, were guided by Alhaji Adebayo Adeniran in expressing their solidarity with Ogunbiyi’s candidacy.

The defection and declaration ceremony, held concurrently at the APC Secretariat in Osogbo on Thursday, saw Adeniran affirming their loyalty to Ogunbiyi since his PDP days, stating that rather than seeking refuge in an unfamiliar party (ADC), the APC provides a superior platform.

“We hail from various parts of the state. We have stood by Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi since his tenure in the PDP, and now, we cannot remain without a political home; hence, we join a more promising platform,” he proclaimed.

Welcoming the defectors, APC leaders in the state, led by a delegate from the National Secretariat, Halilu Ibrahim, declared that nothing would impede the APC’s triumph in the forthcoming elections at both state and federal levels.

In the meantime, Dr. Ogunbiyi, while declaring his candidacy for the APC nomination in the state, expressed no concern over the incumbent governor’s efforts to join the APC, emphasizing the party’s status as a progressive and successful entity, which explains the eagerness from various states to affiliate with it.

“I am entirely unfazed by the incumbent governor’s attempts to join the APC. Our party is a victorious coalition, evident by the national developments. Individuals nationwide are declaring for the APC because it is a prevailing force.

“Tinubu’s governance strategy is progressive and conducive to development, impacting all sectors of the economy and spanning the federation’s states. Adeleke, as a serving governor, is welcome to join the APC; the paramount goal is to wrest power from the PDP.”

In publicly announcing his ambition to contest for the gubernatorial nomination in the state, he entrusted his remaining PDP supporters to the party leaders, urging their integration into the party.
