Accountant General Addressing Glitches that Caused Delays in Payment of Salaries

The Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) is actively addressing the recent grievances concerning the non-receipt of June salaries by certain civil servants. In a communiqué issued on Friday, Bawa Mokwa, the Director of Press and Public Relations at the OAGF, elucidated that the salary delay pertained to individuals whose accounts are maintained with Zenith Bank. "Upon thorough investigation, it was ascertained that the salary disbursements for personnel across various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) were impeded due to a technical network disruption within the bank," the statement elucidates. "The OAGF comprehends the distress and discontent this predicament has engendered, especially considering the significance of punctual salary payments to the livelihoods and obligations of our esteemed public servants. "We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this untoward incident has occasioned and wish to reassure all affected employees that immediate measures have been instituted to rectify the situation." Mokwa implored all federal public service staff impacted by the development to remain composed, noting that endeavors are in progress to ensure that all receive their due salaries. He affirmed that the OAGF is collaborating closely with pertinent service providers and stakeholders to guarantee the failed payments are reprocessed expeditiously. "Definitive steps have already been initiated to isolate the issue, and arrangements are underway to reprocess the unsuccessful payments at the earliest possible juncture," he stated. "The welfare of federal government employees remains a paramount concern of the OAGF." Mokwa further stated that the office is also striving to continue disbursing the outstanding four months’ arrears of the N35,000 wage award to all affected government workers subsequent to resolving the June salary delay. He asserted that the Accountant-General remains unwaveringly committed to transparency, accountability, and efficiency in all payroll operations. "We are receptive to ongoing engagement with stakeholders to ensure sustained enhancements in our service delivery. Your patience and understanding during this challenging period are immensely valued," he appended.
