Wike Congratulates Okpebholo on Supreme Court Victory as Edo Governor

Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has congratulated Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State on the Supreme Court’s judgment affirming his victory in the September 2024 governorship election.

The Supreme Court unanimously ruled that the Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, failed to provide sufficient evidence to challenge Okpebholo’s election.

Wike described the judgment as a final confirmation of the mandate given to Okpebholo by the people of Edo State.

He urged the governor to remain focused and view the victory as a call to selfless service to the people. Wike also called on Ighodalo to join hands with Okpebholo to develop Edo State, emphasizing the need for collective effort in the state’s interest.

This isn’t Wike’s first reaction to a significant Supreme Court judgment. Earlier in February, he hailed a Supreme Court ruling that nullified the local government elections in Rivers State, describing it as an end to impunity in the state.

He criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed for supporting what he termed lawlessness in Rivers State.
