House of Reps Committee on Public Accounts Asks Nigerians to Uphold Accountability,Transparency

The House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts has called on Nigerians to uphold accountability and transparency in governance. Chairman Bamidele Salam emphasized that tackling corruption and fiscal mismanagement requires collective effort from both the government and citizens.

Salam made the plea at the 2025 National Conference on Public Accounts and Fiscal Governance, organized by the Senate and House of Representatives Public Accounts Committees.

He stressed that individual and institutional integrity is crucial for governance reform.

The lawmaker encouraged participants to take home the message of renewed commitment to rules, regulations, and best practices in public service.

He also hinted at the possibility of making the conference an annual event, pending review of its outcomes.

Senator Ahmed Wadada, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Accounts, echoed similar sentiments, urging Nigerians to prioritize national unity and transparency in public governance.

He lamented the tendency of some citizens to inject ethnic and religious biases into national issues, particularly in public service and policymaking.

Wadada emphasized that eradicating corruption is a shared responsibility that transcends individual differences. He urged conference participants to thoroughly review policy documents to contribute meaningfully to ongoing governance reforms.
