Atiku, Sowore Trade Words Over National Grid Collapse

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and 2023 presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore have engaged in a heated exchange on social media following another nationwide power grid collapse.

Atiku, in a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, expressed concern over the state of Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure. He wrote:

> “I am reliably informed that there was a total National Grid Collapse at precisely 12:23pm today. This is one collapse too many. It is the 6th time this is happening this year alone.”

Reacting sharply, Sowore accused Atiku of hypocrisy, referencing the controversial \$16 billion power project during the Obasanjo-Atiku administration. He responded:

> “The National Electrical grid collapse started when you and Obasanjo invested \$16 billion to procure darkness for Nigeria.

The Buhari regime came to gazette grid collapse as a law. Alhaji Atiku, don’t pretend that you care about the National Grid!”

The exchange has sparked renewed debate on social media over the long-standing challenges facing Nigeria’s power sector and the roles played by successive administrations in the country’s persistent electricity woes.
