I’ll Be Re-Elected If I Run In 2027 Despite Wike’s Opposition, Boasts Senator Ireti Kingibe

Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under the Labour Party, has declared that she will win re-election in 2027 if she chooses to run, despite opposition from the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike.

Speaking during an interview, Kingibe expressed confidence in her political strength and popularity among residents of the FCT.

She noted that her previous victory in 2023 was based on strong grassroots support and not dependent on any political godfather or external influence.

“If I run again, I’ll be re-elected regardless of what Wike says or does,” Kingibe stated. “I went to the Senate with one of the highest, if not the highest, number of votes for a legislator. And if I run again, the margin will be even wider.”

Kingibe and Wike have been at odds over various policy directions and political influence in the FCT since both assumed office in 2023.

Their differences have frequently played out in the public domain, with the senator often accusing the minister of sidelining elected representatives and showing disregard for democratic processes.

“The residents of the FCT are not happy with Wike. They feel insulted by the way he conducts affairs and the disdain he seems to have for the electorate and their choices,” Kingibe said.

She also addressed suggestions that her 2023 electoral success was due mainly to the popularity of Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

While acknowledging Obi’s widespread appeal, she insisted that she brought in votes from areas that would not normally align with the LP.

“I brought votes that wouldn’t normally go to him. My campaign was strong and localized. People voted for me because they know me and what I stand for,” she said.

Senator Kingibe’s comments come as discussions around the 2027 general elections begin to intensify across the country. Her remarks are seen by observers as a strong indication of her readiness to maintain a central role in Abuja’s political landscape, regardless of internal party dynamics or opposition from powerful figures like Wike.
