You’re Shameless,. Obsessed with Power, Dele Momodu Slams Wike

Renowned journalist and publisher, Dele Momodu, has sharply criticized the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, following the latter’s recent appearance on Channels Television, describing his conduct as “reckless” and unbecoming of a federal appointee.

Speaking in response to the Friday interview, Momodu said he was inundated with messages urging him to ignore Wike’s comments. “A former Attorney General reached out to me this morning and advised, ‘Don’t wrestle with a pig.’ So I won’t,” he said, during an interview of his own.

He continued, “I’m not here to wrestle with someone who is absolutely shameless, who does not care about anything in this world other than his alcohol. What we witnessed on television was the height of recklessness and irresponsibility from someone meant to represent the interests of all Nigerians — not just his political cronies in the PDP or APC.”

Clarifying his past association with the former Rivers State governor, Momodu said he once served as Wike’s media consultant around 2022.

He explained that following a heated interview he conducted with IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu — in which Kanu heavily criticized Wike — the minister personally requested a right of reply and even invited Momodu’s Ovation Media team for an extended engagement.

“He said it himself; we didn’t beg him. I don’t joke with my job. Wike, at that time, still had some sense of normalcy,” Momodu noted.

The media personality said the Wike seen today is a shadow of his former self, likening his transformation to a descent into obsession with power. “Tonight, I want to dissect Wike’s metamorphosis… like Wole Soyinka’s ‘The Metamorphosis’ and Jiro’s. What has happened to Wike is the demonic spirit of power. When someone who used to be a nobody suddenly gets power, he begins to change — slowly and steadily.”

Momodu’s comments add to growing public discourse surrounding Wike’s perceived combative style and controversial political alignments, especially in light of internal tensions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
