LASEPA Cracks Down on Noise Pollution, Shuts Down Lounges, Schools in Lekki, VI
The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has intensified its clampdown on environmental violations, sealing several establishments across Victoria Island, Lekki Phase 1, and Elegushi Beach over persistent noise pollution and other related infractions.
In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday, LASEPA confirmed that the enforcement operation was part of a broader initiative aimed at restoring environmental sanity and safeguarding public health within the state.
Among the establishments affected were Mania Lounge, Voda Beach Club, and Meadow Hall School, all of which were found to have consistently breached noise level regulations despite multiple warnings.
LASEPA emphasized that the businesses had been previously served notices to comply with acceptable environmental standards, but their failure to adhere prompted decisive enforcement action.
“This operation sends a clear message that Lagos State will not condone any activity that disrupts the peace of the community or endangers the well-being of its residents,” the agency stated.
The agency also warned that routine inspections and follow-ups would continue, noting that establishments that fail to implement proper noise control measures would face similar consequences.
The move has drawn mixed reactions from the public, with many residents applauding the agency’s actions, citing a long history of sleepless nights and disturbances caused by high-decibel music and unregulated events.
LASEPA urged all commercial and recreational operators within the state to prioritize environmental compliance and ensure that their operations do not jeopardize community health or disrupt public peace.
