2027: Matawalle, Yari Supporters Dismiss Anti-Tinubu Coalition as Waste of Energy
Supporters of former Zamfara State Governor Bello Matawalle and ex-Governor of Kebbi State Abdulazeez Yari have dismissed the emerging opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring it a failed effort incapable of stopping President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.
At a gathering held in Kaduna over the weekend, the group launched the “Shehi and Matawalle Project for Tinubu 2nd Term Mandate 2027,” a grassroots mobilisation effort aimed at consolidating support for President Tinubu across the North-West zone.
Speaking at the event, the group’s National Publicity Secretary, Auwal Mohammed, described the opposition alignment of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai as a “waste of time and energy.”
Mohammed said President Tinubu’s reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda have begun yielding results and that Nigerians will reward his bold leadership with a second term.
He noted the removal of fuel subsidy, exchange rate unification, rehabilitation of major roads, and expansion of rural electrification as significant achievements.
The Zonal Coordinator of the movement, Babangida Haruna Damba, called on party executives and stakeholders to remain focused on strengthening support structures across local government areas.
He said the North-West remains a stronghold of the APC and would continue to back President Tinubu.
Zonal Secretary Ahmad Hashim added that the movement’s aim is to ensure early and strategic mobilisation for 2027.
He emphasised that the opposition lacks a coherent message and credibility, adding that those coming together against Tinubu had their chances but failed to deliver meaningful governance when they were in power.
The group maintained that President Tinubu’s administration is laying the foundation for long-term prosperity and development, urging Nigerians to ignore distractions from opposition coalitions and continue supporting the government’s policies.
The Kaduna meeting is among the latest in a series of political gatherings aimed at energising grassroots support in anticipation of the 2027 general elections.
