Presidency to ADC Coalition: Forget 2027 Ambition

The Presidency has dismissed the chances of the African Democratic Congress (ADC)-led opposition coalition in the 2027 general elections, urging its leaders to abandon what it described as an unrealistic ambition.

A senior official at the Presidency, who spoke on condition of anonymity on Friday, said the emerging coalition lacks the cohesion, national structure, and policy depth to mount any serious challenge against the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“This so-called coalition is built on personal grievances and ambition, not ideology or any realistic roadmap for the country.

Nigerians will not entrust the nation to a disjointed group whose only unifying message is their dislike for the President,” the official said.

The statement comes amid increasing momentum around the ADC’s push for an opposition alliance, which includes prominent figures from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and other groups aiming to form a united political front ahead of the next election cycle.

However, the Presidency maintained that the Tinubu administration is focused on rebuilding a broken economy and delivering lasting reforms, stressing that the opposition should concentrate on offering credible alternatives rather than engaging in what it called “empty political posturing.”

“Nigeria cannot be handed over to political experiments. What the people need is stable leadership, not noisy coalitions that collapse before elections,” the official added.

The ADC, through its national leader Dumebi Kachikwu and other coalition members, has insisted that the time is ripe to dismantle the dominance of the APC and PDP and restore inclusive governance.

They argue that the coalition represents a third force that will usher in a new political era in Nigeria.

Despite the bold declarations from the coalition, analysts believe that building a viable national alliance within Nigeria’s complex political environment remains a daunting task.

The months ahead are expected to test the strength and durability of the ADC-led initiative.
