Bode George Blasts PDP Chieftains Over ADC Opposition Coalition
A former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has criticised prominent members of the party who are actively participating in the newly unveiled opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), accusing them of disloyalty and double standards.
Speaking in an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, George specifically called out former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Senate President David Mark, saying they cannot continue to operate within the PDP while openly associating with a rival political platform.
He stated that such actions amount to betrayal of party ideals and must not be condoned.
“You can’t claim to be a member of the PDP and then be promoting another political party,” George said. “That is political hypocrisy. If you want to work with ADC, go there officially and stop hiding under PDP to serve another agenda.”
The comments follow the official launch of the opposition coalition on the platform of the ADC, which brought together political figures including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso.
The coalition said it was formed to build a united front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
However, George dismissed the initiative as lacking seriousness and ideological direction. He described the coalition’s formation as “existential imbecility” and said it was more about personal ambition than any genuine concern for national development.
“What kind of coalition are they forming?” he asked. “Is it based on ideology, on shared vision? Or is it just a congregation of desperate politicians seeking power at all cost?”
George also accused Atiku and David Mark of being responsible for the internal crisis that has plagued the PDP, saying their actions contributed to weakening the party from within.
According to him, rather than fixing the problems they helped create, they have chosen to abandon the platform for personal gain.
“Atiku and David Mark were part of the architects of the crisis that fractured this party,” he said. “Now they are jumping ship instead of staying to rebuild what they helped destroy.”
The opposition coalition, launched earlier in the week, named David Mark as its interim chairman and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola as secretary. The group said it aims to bring together like-minded leaders to provide a viable alternative in 2027.
George’s comments reflect the deepening tension within the PDP as debates over loyalty and party direction intensify. His position underscores growing demands from some quarters for the party to take disciplinary action against members who are seen to be undermining its unity and purpose.
While the PDP has not issued an official response to George’s remarks, internal party sources indicate that discussions are ongoing regarding the future of members aligning with the ADC-led coalition.
As preparations for the 2027 elections begin to take shape, the fate of the PDP and its position in the opposition landscape remain uncertain.
