Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election Unshaken by Opposition Coalition, Says Group

The Grassroots Movement for Tinubu (GMT) has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s chances of securing a second term in the 2027 general election remain solid, despite the recent formation of an opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Speaking in Akure, Ondo State, the Director-General of the GMT, Hon. Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye, dismissed the coalition as a mere alliance of “political orphans” lacking the credibility and structure to challenge the President’s growing popularity nationwide.

Yusuf-Ogunleye said the coalition, which includes high-profile politicians such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-governors Nasir El-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, and former Senate President David Mark, was made up of individuals who had either failed in previous elections or lost political relevance.

“The ADC-led coalition is nothing but a gathering of desperate political actors who are grasping for relevance,” he said. “They have nothing new to offer Nigerians. Their only agenda is to discredit a performing government and create an illusion of strength.”

He further emphasized that Tinubu’s administration had made significant strides in infrastructure development, education reforms, economic policies, and the digital economy. He specifically pointed to the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project, the student loan scheme, and ongoing reforms in the power and oil sectors as evidence of effective governance under Tinubu’s leadership.

According to him, these policies are already resonating with Nigerians at the grassroots level, and the people will reward President Tinubu with another term in 2027.

Yusuf-Ogunleye said, “President Tinubu remains the most prepared and courageous leader in Nigeria’s democratic history. He is not afraid of making tough decisions, and he is delivering results. The people know this and will not be deceived by recycled politicians hiding under a coalition.”

He also accused members of the opposition coalition of attempting to distract the President from his ongoing reforms by engaging in what he described as “public stunts” and political blackmail.

The GMT boss added that unlike previous coalitions that had failed to unite beyond press conferences, Tinubu enjoys a loyal and robust support base that transcends ethnic, religious, and regional lines.

Meanwhile, the opposition coalition, which recently adopted the ADC as its political platform, has been vocal in its criticism of the Tinubu administration. Coalition leaders have accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of undermining democratic institutions and fostering a one-party system through coordinated defection of opposition lawmakers and intimidation of dissenting voices.

Former Senate President David Mark has since been appointed interim chairman of the ADC, with the coalition promising to field a united candidate in the 2027 presidential race.

Despite these moves, the APC and Tinubu loyalists have repeatedly downplayed the threat. Presidential adviser Daniel Bwala and party spokesperson Bala Ibrahim have described the coalition as “dead on arrival,” asserting that it lacks both vision and mass appeal.

As the political atmosphere continues to heat up ahead of 2027, both camps are digging in for a fierce battle — but for now, the Tinubu camp remains confident that the President’s record and grassroots support will carry the day.
