It’ll Pain Me If Tinubu Loses in 2027, Says Timi The Law
A social media user identified as Timi The Law has expressed concerns over the political and economic implications of a potential defeat of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
In a post shared via his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Timi stated that it would be painful for him if Tinubu loses the next presidential election, arguing that the removal of fuel subsidy — a decision made under Tinubu’s administration — would continue to affect public perception unfairly.
According to him, although the move to end the fuel subsidy regime has faced widespread criticism, the reality remains that no future administration is likely to reintroduce it due to its unsustainable nature. He added that opposition figures who previously condemned the removal would ironically be the long-term beneficiaries of the decision.
“It’ll pain me if Tinubu loses in 2027. I say this because the next president won’t bring back subsidy, and Tinubu will remain the fall guy. The opposition will benefit from a decision they criticized. Totally not fair,” Timi The Law posted.
The statement has drawn mixed reactions on social media, with some users agreeing that President Tinubu is being unfairly vilified for implementing a necessary but unpopular policy, while others argued that the policy’s execution lacked proper planning and mitigation strategies for its adverse effects on Nigerians.
The removal of fuel subsidy was one of the most significant early decisions of the Tinubu administration in 2023, triggering inflationary pressures, widespread protests, and intense political backlash.
However, many economists have maintained that subsidy removal was inevitable due to the strain it placed on national finances.
As the 2027 elections draw nearer, discussions on the long-term impact of this policy are expected to remain central in Nigeria’s political discourse.
