Trump Pushes Through With Denaturation Policy, Secret Memo Reveals

The United States government has formalized initiatives to rescind U.S. citizenship from certain naturalized individuals through a newly uncovered Justice Department memorandum, instructing federal attorneys to prioritize denaturalization for those who have committed particular offenses or misrepresented information during their naturalization process.

According to a report by The Guardian on Monday, the memorandum dated June 11 advocates for civil proceedings against individuals who either “illegally procured” naturalization or achieved it through “concealment of a material fact or by willful misrepresentation.”

Unlike criminal trials, those subject to civil denaturalization are not entitled to legal representation, and the government faces a lower burden of proof.

Central to the initiative, according to the report, are the estimated 25 million U.S. citizens who immigrated to the country after being born abroad, based on data from 2023, with the memorandum enumerating 10 distinct priority categories for denaturalization.
