Tinubu Ineffectual, Opposition Must Unite to Prevent Vote Fragmentation in 2027, Opines GRV

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour has censured President Bola Tinubu’s administration, labeling it “a failure” and attributing to it the gravest cost-of-living crisis Nigeria has endured in four decades.
Rhodes-Vivour, who stood as the Labour Party’s gubernatorial candidate in Lagos State during the 2023 elections, delivered these remarks during his appearance on Channels Television’s Lunchtime Politics on Tuesday.
“This administration has ultimately proven ineffectual. When discussing the quality of life and living costs, this represents the most severe cost-of-living crisis Nigeria has encountered in the past forty years,” Rhodes-Vivour articulated during the broadcast.
The 42-year-old politician further lamented the country’s security predicament, highlighting the numerous fatalities across various regions.
“Regarding security: over 10,000 individuals have perished in the North, while approximately 7,000 have died in the South.
On the international tourism index, we have descended from position 8 to position 6. You may discuss policies endlessly, but if citizens are enduring hardship, while concurrently renovating the vice president’s residence, it speaks volumes.
“You are expending resources in a manner indicative of opulence and luxurious living; spending in a fashion befitting a nation with a robust economy.
It revolves around the populace tightening their belts, yet witnessing the government indulge extravagantly,” he asserted.
Rhodes-Vivour additionally lamented the economic regression under the Tinubu government, asserting that Nigeria has now been ranked as the 10th poorest nation globally.
The Lagos politician emphasized that the sole method to rescue the nation is for the opposition to consolidate efforts in a bid to dethrone President Tinubu.
According to him, the opposition cannot afford to fragment their votes in the 2027 election as they did in 2023.
“The only path to advance this nation as an opposition is through unity; we cannot afford to divide our votes once more. If you combine Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s votes with His Excellency Peter Obi’s votes, they entirely surpass the current president’s tally.
“Thus, the discourse now centers on forming a coalition; an announcement is imminent, and all parties are converging. This is our primary focus. At that juncture, we can assert definitively the party on which we will campaign,” he conveyed.
Rhodes-Vivour also reproached the administration of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, accusing it of prioritizing self-interest over public service.
