PDP Leaders Decry Party Decline, Accuse APC of Ruining Nigeria

A group of concerned leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised the alarm over what they describe as the disturbing condition of their party and the overall decline of Nigeria under the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government.

The leaders met on Tuesday at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja and issued a communiqué that has sparked political reactions across the country.

According to the statement shared on social media by PDP chieftain and media executive Dele Momodu, the meeting was convened in response to the deepening crisis within the PDP since its loss in the last presidential election and the subsequent exit of Dr. Iyorchia Ayu as National Chairman.

The leaders expressed concern that the party has not been the same since that period, blaming both internal vested interests and external interference by the APC government.

They alleged that the APC-led administration has been using state institutions to stifle and destroy democracy in the country. The communiqué described the current PDP leadership as unable to uphold the constitution, rules, and internal discipline of the party, resulting in a chaotic and directionless organization.

This, they said, has significantly eroded the vision of the party’s founding fathers, who once positioned Nigeria as a stable, united country and a major player on the regional, continental, and global stage.

The leaders lamented that Nigeria’s standing in the world has been washed away, with the country now overtaken by smaller and less endowed nations.

They described Nigeria as a “diminished country and an embarrassment on the world stage,” and criticized the APC government for coming into power through what they called “false and evil propaganda” against the PDP. They argued that the same APC has now become a disaster to the nation and should be voted out.

They warned that all indices of development that ensure citizens’ comfort and quality of life have collapsed, asserting that life in Nigeria has become unbearable. According to them, the PDP, once known for its discipline, leadership capacity, and history of national service, is now a shadow of itself.

They blamed the APC government for orchestrating the defection of elected officials from the PDP through threats, blackmail, and political patronage.

Concluding the communiqué, the PDP leaders resolved to take immediate action to reclaim their party and rescue Nigeria. They encouraged all well-meaning PDP members and other patriotic Nigerians to join the coalition aimed at restoring democracy, good governance, and national dignity.

The statement, titled “The Game is On,” has added new momentum to conversations around opposition unity ahead of future elections and may signal the beginning of broader coalition-building efforts in the country’s political landscape.
