2Baba Stirs Controversy with Bold Statement on Male Sexuality, Monogamy

Veteran Nigerian musician Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has once again sparked widespread public debate following his candid comments about male sexuality and monogamy.

Speaking during a recent appearance on The Honest Bunch podcast hosted by comedian Nedu, 2Baba declared that men were not biologically built to be sexually exclusive with one woman.

“I’ve said this before, and I got into trouble for it, but I don’t care to say it again: man was not built to be sexually with just one woman,” he stated. “A man can love a woman deeply, but his body might still want something else.”

The singer went on to explain his perspective using a biological analogy, arguing that a man’s natural production of reproductive cells is evidence that he is “wired” for sexual variety. While insisting that emotional commitment and love are possible within monogamous relationships, 2Baba claimed that physical fidelity remains a different challenge altogether for men.

His comments have quickly gone viral, triggering a torrent of reactions across social media and traditional platforms. While some fans praised his honesty, describing it as a bold reflection of “male nature,” a large section of the public, particularly women, criticized the remarks as a veiled excuse for infidelity.

Critics argue that 2Baba’s comments promote a harmful stereotype that undermines accountability and encourages unfaithfulness in relationships.

Many social commentators have called out the singer for using “biology” to rationalize behavior that ought to be guided by self-discipline and respect for partners.

Popular relationship therapist Adeola Ogunlade responded on X (formerly Twitter), saying,

“Infidelity is a choice, not a biological compulsion. If women operated on the same logic, relationships would collapse. Let’s stop normalizing betrayal.”

This is not the first time the legendary Afro-pop singer has drawn attention for similar sentiments. In October 2024, during an episode of the Netflix series Young, Famous & African, 2Baba stated:

“Like it or not, men are wired like that. A man will love a woman to hell. But maybe he is somewhere, and his ‘thing’ would just decide something to f*ck.”

The statement caused significant uproar at the time, prompting further scrutiny of his personal life, including his well-documented relationships with multiple women and fathering seven children by three different women.

2Baba, who is married to actress Annie Idibia, has publicly apologized in the past for causing emotional pain through his actions. He has also joked about “resigning from impregnating women,” a comment that once again highlighted the long-running tension between his personal decisions and public expectations.

The singer’s remarks have reignited an ongoing cultural debate in Nigeria and across Africa about masculinity, fidelity, and societal expectations in romantic relationships. In a society where infidelity often sparks gendered double standards, his comments have added fuel to conversations about male privilege, marriage ethics, and accountability in public figures.

Some cultural critics have noted that celebrities like 2Baba carry enormous influence and should use their platforms more responsibly. Others see his comments as simply personal truth—an unfiltered reflection of how some men view themselves, rightly or wrongly.

Whether seen as honesty or insensitivity, 2Baba’s latest statement has thrust him once more into the center of public discourse. His perspective, though controversial, has forced a difficult conversation about love, loyalty, and whether biology should ever be an excuse for betrayal.

As reactions continue to pour in, the veteran musician remains unfazed—firm in his belief, unapologetic in his delivery, and once again, a trending topic across Nigeria’s airwaves.
