Rivers, Bayelsa, Plateau, Kano Governors Readying to Join APC as Speculations on Abia, Enugu Swirls

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is poised to welcome at least five more governors into its fold, according to Dr. Ijeoma Arodiogbu, the party’s National Vice Chairman (South East). This development comes on the heels of recent high-profile defections from the opposition, including Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

Arodiogbu revealed that discussions are ongoing with governors from various geopolitical zones, including Bayelsa, Rivers, Plateau, and Kano states. He mentioned that either Abia or Enugu State governor might also join the APC in the coming months.

These potential defections signal a deepening crack within the opposition bloc and raise concerns about its ability to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The APC’s growing strength is evident in the recent endorsements it has received.

Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance has publicly thrown his weight behind Tinubu’s second-term ambition. However, Arodiogbu dismissed rumors of a deal between the Presidency and Soludo for 2027, stating that President Tinubu has not endorsed him.

Arodiogbu also criticized Soludo’s political relevance, suggesting that the Anambra governor is clinging to power through symbolic endorsements rather than grassroots support.

He expressed confidence in the APC’s candidate, Nicholas Ukachukwu, who has long-standing political experience.

Meanwhile, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s potential defection to the APC has sparked controversy within the party.

Stakeholders in Osun APC are reportedly resistant to welcoming Adeleke, citing strong interests within the party who are not open to his joining.

Former Governor Gboyega Oyetola and APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, are both eyeing the party’s 2026 gubernatorial ticket, complicating any potential Adeleke crossover.
