Wizkid Emerges Africa’s Most Streamed Artiste with 21.9 Billion Audio Streams

Nigerian global music icon, Wizkid, has been ranked as Africa’s most streamed artiste of all time, amassing an extraordinary 21.9 billion audio streams across major digital platforms. The latest data, released by the international music analytics platform ChartMasters, affirms Wizkid’s towering influence and the continued global rise of Afrobeats.

Closely trailing him is fellow Nigerian and Grammy award-winner Burna Boy, with 17.6 billion streams, underscoring his stature as a leading figure in the global music scene. Rema, whose breakout hit Calm Down earned massive international success, follows in third place with 9.5 billion streams. Davido secures the fourth spot with 9 billion, while Tems, celebrated for her collaborations with global stars like Drake and Future, rounds out the top five with 8 billion.

Other Nigerian stars dominating the chart include Asake and Ayra Starr with 8.0 and 7.2 billion streams respectively, Omah Lay with 7 billion, and Fireboy DML, CKay, Kizz Daniel, BNXN, and Olamide, all appearing with multi-billion stream figures. In total, 13 of the 16 artists on the list are Nigerian, further cementing the country’s role as the driving force behind Africa’s contemporary music explosion.

The chart also features South African pop-R&B sensation Tyla, who gained international fame with her hit single water and rock band Seether, both with 5.1 and 5.2 billion streams, respectively. Algerian rapper and singer Soolking represents North Africa with 5.2 billion streams, marking a strong continental showing.

The figures are based on cumulative audio-only streams from leading platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and others. Video platforms like YouTube were excluded, yet the data provides a striking view of global listening trends and audio consumption for African music.

Wizkid’s latest streaming milestone follows his earlier recognition as the first African artiste to surpass 20 billion audio streams globally an achievement confirmed by ChartMasters in early 2025. With a consistent run of hit albums and high-profile international collaborations, Wizkid continues to set the pace as a trailblazer for Afrobeats on the world stage.

The report also spotlights the expanding commercial value of African music globally. With increasing streaming figures, record label investments, and international tours, African artistes are not only making waves but also reshaping the landscape of global pop culture.
