Kogi Governor Ododo Declares Salaries Right, Not Privilege
Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has declared that the payment of salaries to civil servants is not a favour but a constitutional right that must be upheld by leadership.
He made the statement on Saturday during a meeting with the Nigeria Labour Congress and other stakeholders in the state civil service at the Government House in Lokoja.
Governor Ododo stressed that his administration is committed to prioritising the welfare of workers and ensuring that prompt and full salary payments remain a standard practice.
“Your salary is your right and not a privilege. We are here to serve, and my administration will continue to uphold the dignity of labour and ensure that workers receive what is due to them,” the governor said.
He reaffirmed that his government would continue to pursue policies that promote transparency and accountability, while treating the public service as a key driver of development in the state.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) chairman in Kogi State, Gabriel Amari, commended the governor for his approach to governance and commitment to the welfare of workers.
He listed achievements such as the prompt payment of salaries, full implementation of the ₦30,000 minimum wage, annual leave bonuses, health insurance for pensioners, and the rehabilitation of infrastructure at Labour House.
Similarly, the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) praised Governor Ododo for ensuring 100 percent salary payment to workers at the local government level, describing it as a major boost to grassroots governance.
Governor Ododo assured the labour leaders of continued cooperation and partnership, stating that workers would always be included in decision-making processes that affect their interests.
He reiterated his promise that the workforce in Kogi State would never be neglected under his watch.
