Nigerian Youths’ Post-End SARS Political Momentum Fizzles Out
The fervent commitment displayed by Nigerian youths after the End SARS movement in 2020 seemed to wane barely a year later.
The protests had ignited a desire among young people to bring about change by voting out old political figures and ushering in new leadership in the 2023 elections.
However, as time passed, many of these youths began to form alliances with the very politicians they had initially vowed to reject.
Some threw their support behind established figures like Peter Obi, Bola Tinubu, and Atiku Abubakar. Only a handful backed Omoyele Sowore, a relatively new face in politics.
This shift in allegiance led to a fragmentation of the unity that had briefly emerged from the End SARS movement. The youthful energy that had driven the protests appeared to dissipate as individuals chose to align with different political camps.
