DSS Frees NANS President Atiku from Confinement

The Department of State Security (DSS) has liberated the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Atiku Abubakar-Isah, from confinement.
The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 election, Omoyele Sowore, affirmed Atiku’s release through a declaration on his official X account on Thursday.
“NANS President Atiku Abubakar-Isah has been emancipated from prolonged and unjust confinement by the anarchic Department of State Security, colloquially known as DSS!,” Sowore penned.
The self-proclaimed NANS president had admitted in May that his assertions against President Bola Tinubu’s progeny, Seyi Tinubu, were fallacious.
Atiku, in a statement last month, addressed the declarations he made in a video that garnered widespread attention on social media.
In the video, he accused Seyi and the Minister of Youth and Sport, Ayodele Olawande, of summoning him to Lagos, where he was proffered N100 million to endorse President Tinubu.
He declared that he repudiated the proposition, which precipitated his abduction on April 15, 2025.
According to Atiku, following his abduction, he was divested of his attire and subjected to a severe beating, noting that the Managing Director of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) was cognizant.
He recounted being transported to the NTA where an “involuntary statement ostensibly renouncing my position as NANS President was coerced.”
Nevertheless, in a letter of contrition to Seyi, disseminated on his Facebook page, Atiku characterized his allegations as spurious.
