Amusan Wins 100 Meter Hurdle at Ostrava Golden Spike Meet

World record holder Tobi Amusan continued her impressive form ahead of the upcoming World Athletics Championships with a convincing win in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Golden Spike meet in Ostrava, Czechia, on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old Nigerian, who is fresh from an outstanding performance at the Paris Diamond League last weekend, lived up to her favorite status by cruising to a comfortable victory in 12.45 seconds. Amusan’s dominant display saw her finish well clear of her closest rivals, with Slovakia’s Viktoria Forster taking second place in a season’s best time of 12.74 seconds, and Ireland’s Sarah Lavin claiming third spot in a season’s best of 12.76 seconds.

Lavin, from Limerick, impressed by shaving more than a tenth of a second off her previous best of 12.90 seconds, continuing her strong progression in what has been a promising European outdoor campaign. The Irish athlete’s performance is a testament to her hard work and dedication, and she will be looking to build on this momentum as the season progresses.

For Amusan, the win in Ostrava marked her second hurdles victory of the season, having also triumphed at the Rabat Diamond League in May with an identical time of 12.45 seconds, which was a new meet record at the time. The Nigerian athlete has been in scintillating form this season, and her performance in Ostrava will have sent a strong message to her rivals ahead of the World Athletics Championships.

Amusan’s season’s best time of 12.24 seconds, which she clocked in Paris last Friday, is a clear indication of her intentions to dominate the 100m hurdles event at the World Championships. The Nigerian athlete finished second in Paris, but her performance in Ostrava suggests that she is peaking at the right time and will be a force to be reckoned with in the upcoming championships.

The Golden Spike meet in Ostrava has a long history of producing outstanding performances, and Amusan’s win is the latest in a long line of impressive displays by world-class athletes. The meet has served as a perfect platform for Amusan to fine-tune her preparations ahead of the World Athletics Championships, and she will be looking to carry her momentum into the championships and make a strong bid for gold.
