Abia State House of Assembly Marks Two Years of Resounding Legislative Achievements

The Abia State House of Assembly has successfully passed 37 bills within its first two years, demonstrating its commitment to lawmaking and governance. Speaker Emmanuel Emeruwa highlighted the assembly’s accomplishments during a press briefing in Umuahia, citing notable legislation such as the Abia State Appropriation Law, the Greater Aba Development Authority Law, and the Abia State Pensions Reform Law.

 

The assembly’s recent milestone of getting 18 bills assented to by the governor in a single day has been hailed as unprecedented in the state’s legislative history. Emeruwa emphasized that the laws enacted are people-friendly and aimed at promoting sustainable development and institutional reforms.

 

Some of the key laws passed include the Abia State Electricity Law, which allows the state to regulate electricity and attract investors, and the Abia State Senior Citizens Law, providing monthly stipends, free medical care, and other benefits to citizens aged 60 and above.

 

The speaker praised the harmonious relationship between the assembly and the executive arm, underscoring the importance of collaboration in governance.

 

The Abia State House of Assembly’s achievements over the past two years reflect its dedication to serving the people and driving progress in the state.
