Soludo Gets Native Doctors’ Nod for Second Term
Thousands of native doctors and traditional religion practitioners across Anambra State have thrown their weight behind Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo’s bid for a second term in office. The endorsement was made during a gathering in Awka, where members of the community met to discuss recent legislative changes affecting their practice and to address public misconceptions about the state government’s position on traditional institutions.
Practitioners from all 21 local government areas of the state were in attendance at the meeting, which also served as a forum to educate members on the provisions of the recently passed Anambra State Homeland Security Law. Enacted in January, the law is designed to distinguish legitimate native doctors from criminal elements who use traditional practices as a cover for illegal and ritualistic activities.
The group commended Governor Soludo’s administration for recognizing the value of traditional institutions and for implementing measures to safeguard and promote their role in society. They expressed appreciation for efforts aimed at protecting genuine practitioners while cracking down on impostors involved in criminal acts.
Their endorsement of Soludo’s reelection is viewed as a significant boost to his campaign, signaling strong support from a notable segment of the population with deep cultural roots and influence.
During the meeting, the native doctors also addressed misconceptions regarding the government’s regulatory efforts, clarifying that the aim is to enhance public safety and ensure ethical practices within their field not to suppress traditional medicine or spirituality.
The public declaration of support marks a major moment in Anambra’s political scene and reflects growing confidence in Soludo’s leadership within the traditional community.
