NSCDC Intercepts Trailer Loaded with Stolen Railway Slippers in Bauchi

In a significant breakthrough, the Mining Team of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has intercepted a trailer loaded with stolen railway slippers in Bauchi State, dealing a major blow to suspected vandals targeting the country’s railway infrastructure.
According to a statement released by the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) on Tuesday, the trailer was stopped at the Missu axis in Bauchi State on June 20, with the railway slippers cleverly concealed beneath sacks of sawdust.
The discovery has raised suspicions of deliberate concealment and intent to vandalize public infrastructure.
The Managing Director of the NRC, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, confirmed that three suspects were arrested in connection with the incident, and the vehicle and stolen items are currently in NSCDC custody for further investigation.
“This is the biggest heist in recent times,” Dr. Opeifa said in a statement. “The NRC Police Command has confronted economic saboteurs targeting railway assets nationwide, and we will not tolerate any form of vandalism.”
The NRC has been working closely with the NSCDC to crack down on railway vandalism, with several arrests made and materials recovered across Bauchi, Kano, Kwara, and Gombe states.
Dr. Opeifa reiterated the corporation’s firm stance against vandalism, saying, “This arrest reflects our zero tolerance for railway vandalism. We will pursue every culprit threatening the future of rail transport in Nigeria.”
The successful interception of the stolen railway slippers is a significant victory for the Nigerian security forces, and a major setback for those seeking to undermine the country’s transportation infrastructure.
The NRC and NSCDC have pledged to continue working together to prevent such incidents and protect the nation’s critical infrastructure.
As the investigation continues, the Nigerian public is being urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. The crackdown on railway vandalism is part of a broader effort to ensure the safety and security of the country’s transportation network, and to promote economic growth and development.
