Nigerian Army Brokers Peace Between Feuding Ethnic Groups in Taraba

The Nigerian Army has successfully facilitated a peace agreement between warring ethnic groups in Taraba State, following a series of violent clashes that had threatened the stability of the region.

According to a statement and visual reports from Channels Television, military personnel intervened to bring leaders of the rival communities to the negotiation table after weeks of escalating tension and bloodshed. The intervention came amid growing concerns over the rising death toll, displacement of civilians, and destruction of property in parts of the state.

At a peace meeting organized and mediated by Army officials, representatives of the affected ethnic groups expressed a willingness to end the violence. The military’s neutral and firm presence helped to calm frayed nerves and secure verbal commitments from both sides to cease hostilities.

A senior military officer who led the reconciliation efforts emphasized the importance of dialogue over violence, stating that the Army would continue to support peaceful coexistence but would not tolerate further breaches of the peace.

“We are here to help communities resolve their differences peacefully. The Army will not hesitate to act decisively if violence resumes,” he said.

Local leaders, elders, and youth representatives also pledged to promote peace and engage in further community-based conflict resolution. They commended the Army for its swift and impartial intervention, which they said prevented the crisis from spiralling further.

This development marks a significant step toward restoring normalcy in Taraba, a state that has experienced repeated ethnic and communal clashes in recent years. Security forces are expected to maintain a presence in volatile areas while peace-building efforts continue.
