Army Warns South East on Consuming Social Media Content

The Nigerian Army has warned residents of the South-East region to exercise caution when consuming digital content on social media platforms.

This development follows the circulation of a misleading video that falsely claimed the Federal Government and South-East and Northern governors were planning to transport weapons to attack residents in the South-East.

The military described the allegations as baseless and an attempt to sow discord among ethnic groups in the country.

In a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Ayeni, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 82 Division, the public was urged to remain vigilant and rely on verified information from credible sources.

The warning highlights the growing concern over digitally manipulated content and artificial intelligence in spreading misinformation. The Nigerian Army emphasized the importance of verifying information before accepting it as true, especially in today’s digital age. Residents are advised to be cautious and not fall prey to misinformation that could potentially destabilize the region.
