Tinubu Celebrates Dr Awele Elumelu at 55, Praises Her Contributions

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended warm felicitations to Dr Awele Vivien Elumelu, wife of business magnate and philanthropist Tony Elumelu, as she marked her 55th birthday on Sunday.
In a public statement issued through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described Dr Elumelu as a beacon of healthcare advancement, philanthropy, and national service.
“Dr Elumelu is a distinguished physician, devoted mother and wife, philanthropist, and entrepreneur,” Tinubu noted, while commending her exemplary service in Nigeria’s private healthcare sector.
“She has dedicated herself to improving the health and well-being of countless Nigerians through her leadership and vision.”
Dr Elumelu currently serves as Chairperson of Avon Healthcare Limited and Chief Executive Officer of Avon Medical Practice. Under her leadership, both institutions have played significant roles in expanding access to quality healthcare services across Nigeria. Her efforts, according to the President, have helped address some of the persistent gaps in the country’s healthcare delivery system.
President Tinubu also hailed her contribution to public health across Africa, recalling her appointment as a Private Sector Champion for Immunisation in Africa by Gavi,
The Vaccine Alliance, in 2018. In that role, Dr Elumelu actively championed campaigns that led to the immunisation of over 10 million previously unreached children, reinforcing her commitment to saving lives and protecting the vulnerable.
Beyond her work in medicine, the President acknowledged Dr Elumelu’s influence as a role model in wellness and fitness. A regular participant in local and international marathons, she has inspired many Nigerians to adopt healthier lifestyles and embrace physical fitness.
“She is not only a strong advocate for preventive healthcare, but she lives by example, motivating others to do the same,” Tinubu stated.
Dr Elumelu is also a Trustee of the Tony Elumelu Foundation and a board member of Heirs Holdings, where she plays a key role in empowering young African entrepreneurs and driving inclusive development across the continent.
In his concluding remarks, President Tinubu prayed for continued blessings upon her life: “I wish Dr Awele Elumelu many more years in good health, happiness, and continued success in her noble service to humanity.”
The message from the Presidency underscores the widespread admiration for Dr Elumelu’s contributions, not just within the medical field, but also in philanthropy, enterprise development, and national transformation.
As she celebrates her 55th birthday, Dr Awele Elumelu remains a towering example of service, integrity, and leadership in both Nigeria and beyond.
