NDLEA Arrests Woman With 2.20kg Cocaine En Route India for Fibroid Surgery

8Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a woman attempting to travel to India for fibroid surgery with 2.20 kilograms of cocaine in her possession.

The arrest was made at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos during routine outbound clearance of passengers travelling to Mumbai, India, on a Qatar Airways flight.

According to NDLEA sources, the suspect claimed she was travelling for medical treatment related to fibroid surgery, but a routine security check led to the discovery of 2.20kg of illicit drugs hidden in her luggage

The agency reported that the woman is currently in custody and is cooperating with ongoing investigations. NDLEA officials are working to determine whether she was part of a larger drug trafficking network or acting independently.

NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to intensifying airport surveillance and cracking down on drug couriers exploiting international routes under false pretenses

“No medical excuse or disguise can shield traffickers from the law,” Babafemi stated.

The agency has repeatedly warned Nigerians against being lured into international drug trafficking under the promise of money or manipulated by networks that prey on vulnerable individuals, including those seeking foreign medical care.

The suspect is expected to be formally charged in the coming days.
