Nathan Tella Quashes Transfer Rumors, Reaffirms Commitment to Bayer Leverkusen

Super Eagles winger Nathan Tella has moved to put an end to speculation about his future by stating firmly that he has no intention of leaving Bayer Leverkusen this summer. The 24-year-old, who joined the German club from Southampton in 2023, expressed contentment with his role and life in Germany, declaring that he is “more than happy” to stay with the Bundesliga champions.
In an interview with German outlet BILD, Tella dismissed any possibility of a summer move, saying, “I really like it here. I have no reason to leave. I’m more than happy here. I want to stay.” His comments come amid rumours linking him with a potential Premier League return, which have intensified following his impressive season under Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso.
Tella has played a key part in Leverkusen’s historic Bundesliga-winning campaign — the club’s first top-flight title in its 120-year history. Often deployed as a right winger or attacking midfielder, he made over 30 appearances across all competitions, registering four goals and three assists. His speed, work rate, and pressing ability have made him an integral component of Alonso’s dynamic system.
Although Leverkusen’s title triumph has quieted many critics, Tella insists the team remains focused on maintaining high standards. Speaking on their ambitions for the next campaign, he said, “A six-point gap isn’t much in football. It’s up to us to keep pushing. We want to win as many games as possible and keep aiming for the top.”
Tella also recently returned to full training after recovering from a minor injury sustained in a clash with Union Berlin’s goalkeeper. He is expected to be fit for Leverkusen’s upcoming fixture against St. Pauli as they continue preparations for the new Bundesliga season and their UEFA Champions League campaign.
Internationally, Tella remains in contention for more appearances with Nigeria’s national team. He made his debut for the Super Eagles in 2023 and has expressed interest in becoming a regular fixture in the squad. His club form could play a vital role in securing that ambition.
For now, Tella is focused solely on Leverkusen. His clarity on the matter sends a strong signal to fans and potential suitors alike — the winger is staying put and ready to build on a historic year.
