ENL Consortium Denies Fire Outbreak at Apapa Port, Says Incident Was Minor Smoke Emission

ENL Consortium, the operator of a major cargo terminal at the Lagos Port Complex in Apapa, has refuted reports of a fire outbreak on a cargo vessel at its facility The company clarified that the incident, which occurred during vessel operations, involved only smoke emission from a ship’s hatch and was swiftly contained.
In a statement released by the Managing Director, Mr. Mark Walsh, ENL, stated that its emergency response team promptly identified and managed the situation without escalation. “There was absolutely no naked fire on the ship,” Walsh emphasized, adding that safety protocols were strictly followed.
The company assured that no lives were at risk and there was no damage to cargo, equipment, or infrastructure at the terminal. “Our commitment to safety, operational excellence, and emergency preparedness enabled a rapid and professional response,” Walsh said.
The incident occurred while the vessel was berthed at the ENL Terminal, but according to the company, all operations remain safe, stable, and fully functional. Walsh urged the public and media outlets to rely on verified information and avoid the spread of misinformation.
However, a contrasting report from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) described the incident as a fire outbreak that occurred during cargo unloading. LASEMA confirmed that its operatives, along with other emergency services, responded to the scene and worked to contain the situation.
Despite the differing accounts, ENL Consortium reiterated its dedication to protecting lives and property by upholding international safety standards and maintaining high levels of preparedness for any emergencies.
