ADC Coalition Stakeholders Meet in Awka, Adopt John Nwosu as Governorship Candidate
Stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and allied political movements on Saturday convened in Awka, Anambra State, where they formally adopted John Chuma Nwosu as their coalition candidate for the November 8 governorship election in the state.
The meeting, attended by representatives of political parties, civil society groups, professional associations, and youth-led organizations, was described as a major step toward forging a unified political front to challenge the dominance of traditional political establishments in the state.
John Nwosu, a public policy advocate and development expert, was endorsed after what participants described as an extensive consultative process. In his acceptance speech, he said his candidacy represented a mission to restore dignity to governance and bring power closer to the people.
“This is not just about winning an election,” Nwosu said. “This is about ending years of betrayal and corruption. Our mission is to put people first and bring leadership that is accountable and responsive.”
ADC’s national leadership, led by Chief Ralph Nwosu, stated that the coalition’s goal is to use Anambra as a model for national political transformation. He noted that the selection of John Nwosu followed careful vetting and was based on competence, integrity, and public service credentials.
“This movement is not about political ambition; it is about rescuing governance from those who have hijacked it,” Chief Nwosu said. “We are presenting a candidate that reflects the values of transparency, equity, and justice. We believe the people of Anambra are ready to reject politics of deception.”
The coalition outlined a policy framework focused on four key areas: transparency in governance, social justice, grassroots empowerment, and equitable development. Nwosu also pledged to release a “People’s Development Charter” within his first 100 days if elected and to institutionalize participatory budgeting.
Representatives from labour groups, women’s associations, student bodies, and diaspora forums expressed their support, describing the endorsement as a turning point in the political history of the state. They said the coalition would embark on door-to-door sensitization across all 21 local government areas in Anambra.
Analysts say the Awka declaration signals a strong intention by emerging political forces to disrupt traditional power dynamics in the state. The ADC-led coalition is also expected to pose a formidable challenge to the ruling party in the coming months as campaigns officially begin.
The stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful and issue-based campaigns while urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure a level playing field for all candidates
