Shettima Condemns Borno Suicide Attack, Assures Immediate Response
Vice President Kashim Shettima has strongly condemned the deadly suicide bombing that claimed several lives in Borno State, describing the attack as a senseless act of terror targeting innocent civilians.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Shettima expressed deep sorrow over the incident, which occurred at a local restaurant in Gwoza town, where at least 10 people were killed and several others injured when a female suicide bomber detonated an explosive device.
“This is a tragic and cowardly attack on the peace-loving people of Borno. I mourn with the victims’ families and the entire community of Gwoza. Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected,” the vice president said.
He assured Nigerians, particularly residents of the North-East, that the Federal Government will take swift and comprehensive action in response to the attack. Shettima stated that all relevant security agencies have been directed to mobilize resources and personnel to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
“This heinous act will not go unanswered. We will work with the military, intelligence agencies, and local authorities to strengthen security and prevent recurrence. The government remains fully committed to protecting lives and restoring lasting peace to the region,” he added.
The vice president also commended the bravery of first responders and health workers who rushed to the scene to assist victims while urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
The attack, which has been widely condemned by local and international bodies, marks one of the deadliest incidents in recent months in the insurgency-hit region, raising renewed concerns about the resurgence of extremist violence in Borno.
