Rivers, Bayelsa Set to Join APC, Says Akpabio

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio suggested on Saturday that Rivers and Bayelsa states are on the verge of aligning with the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Akpabio made this announcement during a grand reception celebrating Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State’s formal induction into the APC.

He expressed optimism that the APC would dominate the entire South-South region in the lead-up to the 2027 elections.

Akpabio remarked, “Governor Sheriff of Delta State, thank you for joining the progressive family and steering the South-South in a progressive direction.”

“Governor Umo Eno, following your lead, Rivers State will follow suit, and subsequently, Bayelsa will join.”

“We triumphed in Edo State with Governor Otu, and we successfully presented the affable Monday Okpebholo. Congratulations once more on your victory.”

In April, Eno had hinted at his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in favor of the APC.

The governor attributed his decision to leave the PDP to the internal strife within the party.

On June 6, the governor officially defected from the PDP to the APC at an event in Uyo, the state capital.

The occasion was well-attended by members of the Progressive Governors Forum and several prominent figures of the ruling party.
