Police Detain Fleeing Lagos Assassin in Ogun, Seize Arsenal

The Lagos State Police Command has successfully apprehended Wasiu Akinwande, infamously known as Olori Eso, who has been deemed the “most wanted, malevolent and infamous contract killer” in Lagos in recent times.

 

The 44-year-old was captured in a meticulously orchestrated tactical operation, dubbed ‘Silence, Speed, and Surprise,’ executed by the Command’s Tactical Squad at his clandestine hideout in the Agbado vicinity of Ogun State.

 

In a communiqué issued on Friday, Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the state command, disclosed that Akinwande, notorious for instilling fear in Mushin and its environs, was tracked to Ogun after previous attempts to apprehend him proved futile.

 

“Apprehension of the most sought-after, malevolent and infamous contract killer and leader of a gang of assassins in Lagos State’s recent history, Wasiu Akinwande a.k.a. Olori Eso, and retrieval of nine (9) advanced firearms, ammunition, magazines, dagger, walkie-talkies, and international passports,” the statement partly read.

 

The accused is alleged to have led numerous lethal gangs accountable for a decade-long spree of violent offenses, including armed robbery, murder, cult-related assassinations, and abductions.

 

Hundeyin revealed, “This serial killer suspect is the most wanted in Lagos’s recent history.

 

“His apprehension signifies a significant triumph in the ongoing battle against violent crimes that pose a threat to the security and safety of residents in Mushin and various other parts of Lagos State.”

 

According to the statement, the police confiscated a substantial cache of weapons and incriminating items from Akinwande’s abode, which the suspect “willingly confessed he employed for his assassination operations with his gang.”

 

“The seized items comprise: Two (2) AK-47 rifles, one (1) K2 assault rifle, one (1) Red Ryder rifle, three (3) pump-action rifles, two (2) locally fabricated single-barrel pistols, five (5) magazines, fifty-seven (57) live cartridges, seventy (70) 5.56 live rounds, twenty-seven (27) 9mm rounds, one (1) spent 5.56 round, one (1) dagger, three (3) walkie-talkies, nine (9) international passports belonging to various individuals,” Hundeyin stated.

 

The Command further indicated that Akinwande’s offenses inflicted profound anguish on the victims’ families and the general populace.

 

“Akinwande’s criminal activities have wrought trauma, terror, suffering, and distress upon the families of the victims of his numerous high-profile crimes currently under investigation by the Lagos State Police Command.”

 

It was disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh, has instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police at the State Criminal Investigation Department to spearhead an extensive investigation and apprehend other suspects linked to the assassinations.

 

“The Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has been tasked by the Commissioner of Police to lead a team of specially selected expert detectives to expand the investigation of the cases and capture all other suspects connected to Wasiu Akinwande and ensure they are brought to justice.”

 

Hundeyin mentioned that four families have come forward to identify Akinwande as the perpetrator behind the murders of their relatives.

 

He stated that Akinwande is currently detained under stringent security measures and will “endure the full force of the law for all his transgressions.”
