FG Suspends Two Correctional Officers Implicated in Inmate Going for Passport in Festac

The Federal Government has suspended two Nigerian Correctional Service officers implicated in a passport scam involving an inmate.

According to Umar Abubakar, Public Relations Officer and Deputy Controller of Corrections, the misconduct was detected through the Nigeria Immigration Service’s automated passport application system.

This development highlights the effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration within the Ministry of Interior.

The incident, which occurred about a fortnight ago, was a clear violation of established rules and procedures. Abubakar emphasized that necessary disciplinary actions were taken, including the suspension of the two personnel by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board, led by Minister of Interior Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

NCoS Controller General Sylvester Nwakuche reiterated the service’s commitment to upholding discipline, transparency, and professionalism in all custodial centers.

He warned that any personnel found engaging in misconduct, corruption, or sabotage would face disciplinary action, including termination.
