South West Zone PDP Says Ekiti Chapter Repositioning for Success in Future Elections

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South West zone has announced that the Ekiti State chapter of the party is being repositioned for success in the 2026 governorship election. According to the party leaders, the PDP is alive and active, despite the ongoing crisis rocking the party’s national leadership.
Speaking at the inauguration of various committees and sub-committees set up to galvanize support for a PDP governorship aspirant in the state, Dr. Wole Oluyede, the Publicity Secretary of PDP in the South West, Chief Sanya Atofarati, charged party leaders and members to be united and get ready for the task ahead.
Atofarati stated that the PDP is determined to wrestle power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
The event, which was attended by thousands of Oluyede loyalists and party supporters, marked the beginning of the party’s journey to the government house in 2026.
Atofarati warned those he described as impostors to stop claiming to speak on behalf of the Ekiti PDP and thanked Dr. Oluyede for offering to lead the struggle.
The Zonal Organizing Secretary of PDP in the South West, Hon. Benson Amuwa, also spoke at the event, stating that the party is still viable and strong, with people still willing to contest elections and run on the platform of the party.
Amuwa accused former Ekiti Governor, Ayodele Fayose, and others who have benefited from the party and used its platform to achieve their political ambition of destabilizing the party.
Amuwa dismissed Fayose’s influence in deciding the outcome of elections in the state, saying that the former governor has lost his political base and steam, and his support cannot guarantee victory for anyone or party in any election.
He cited the example of Fayose’s son, who lost the House of Representatives election in the last general election, despite his father’s support.
The PDP leaders emphasized that the party is not losing anyone by losing Fayose as a leader, and that the masses of Ekiti know that this is the time for the PDP to move forward and higher.
They also stated that politics is not always about what or who one is, but about the people’s trust and support.
Other PDP leaders present at the event included former Ondo State Commissioner for Community Development, Hon. Clement Faboyede, former Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Kola Oluwole, and Hon. Wale Ayeni, among others.
The PDP’s repositioning for the 2026 Ekiti governorship election is seen as a significant move, as the party seeks to regain power in the state.
With the party’s emphasis on unity, trust, and support from the people, it remains to be seen whether the PDP can overcome its internal challenges and emerge victorious in the upcoming election.
