FLASHBACK: 2012 Survey conducted by Nairaland shows Peter Obi Was Grossly Incompetent

A 2012 online survey conducted by Nairaland, a well-known Nigerian forum, highlighted the significant frustration and disappointment of Anambra State residents regarding the leadership of their then Governor, Peter Obi.

The survey inquired about Peter Obi’s actions in Anambra State and received numerous responses, many of which conveyed discontent with the situation in the state. One participant, chuksikem, encapsulated the feelings of many, asking, “What is Peter Obi doing in Anambra State? I’m confused; please someone explain it to me, as the Anambra I visited has deteriorated significantly.”

Another participant, MrGlobe, was even more critical, asserting, “Nothing, my brother. I previously compared him to Theodore Orji of Abia State, and everyone agreed he was worse. I visited Awka, the capital, and it was a disgrace. There are no roads, no planning, no infrastructure, etc. Anambra State truly lacks governance.”

The responses depicted a state in turmoil, characterized by decaying infrastructure, inadequate roads, and a general absence of development. chuksikem, in a subsequent comment, expressed his sorrow over the condition of the state capital, Awka, stating, “I was in Awka a few days ago, and it was truly shameful. My heart aches for my state; the road from Amansea to Awka is riddled with potholes, the street lights don’t work, and trash covers the entire state capital… it still resembles a glorified village.”

The respondents also voiced their dissatisfaction regarding delays in salary payments to civil servants and pensioners, with some waiting for as long as three months for their wages. A common theme was the perceived neglect from Governor Obi, who was frequently absent in Abuja.

Joey Fire, another participant, sarcastically remarked, “Anambra State is suffering because Peter Obi is busy with his day job as GEJ’s Personal Assistant. Despite his role in Abuja, he hasn’t managed to bring anything substantial to the state.”

The 2012 survey responses on Nairaland illustrated the frustrations and disillusionment of Anambra State residents with Peter Obi’s governance during that period.
