Tinubu’s Benue Visit was.Wasted Trip,.Didn’t Achieve Anything

Human rights activist and lawyer Dele Farotimi has expressed disappointment over President Bola Tinubu’s recent visit to Benue State, stating that it would have been better if the president had not visited at all.

Farotimi’s comments come after Tinubu’s visit to Makurdi, the Benue State capital, on Wednesday, where he met with local leaders and stakeholders to discuss the ongoing security challenges in the state.

According to Farotimi, the only notable statement made during the president’s visit was by the Tor Tiv V, James Ayatse, who described the attacks in Benue as a “calculated, well-planned, full-scale genocidal invasion and land grabbing campaign by herder terrorists and bandits”.

Farotimi praised Ayatse’s words, saying they “spoke extensively to the reality of the situation in the Benue trough and spoke eloquently to the pains of the victims”.

However, Farotimi was unimpressed with the president’s response to the crisis, saying that Tinubu’s statements offered “mere windows into his preoccupation and what truly concerns his aides and assistants”.

The lawyer’s comments suggest that the president’s visit did little to address the concerns of the people of Benue State, who have been suffering from repeated attacks by herder terrorists and bandits.

Farotimi’s criticism of the president’s visit is likely to resonate with many Nigerians who have been calling for more decisive action to be taken to address the security challenges in Benue State and other parts of the country.

The lawyer’s statement has sparked a debate about the effectiveness of the president’s approach to addressing the crisis, with some arguing that more needs to be done to provide support and protection to the people of Benue State.
