Benue Church Members Hold Prayer Walk Over Herdsmen Attack Victims
In a show of solidarity and faith, hundreds of Catholic Church members in Benue State staged a prayer walk on Sunday, seeking divine intervention to bring peace to the troubled state.
The procession, which wound its way through the streets of Makurdi, the state capital, was organized to pray for an end to the incessant attacks by herdsmen that have left countless dead and displaced.
Carrying placards and banners with messages of peace and unity, the Catholic faithful, led by their priests and bishops, marched through the city, praying and singing hymns.
The prayer walk was a call to action, urging the government and relevant authorities to take decisive steps to address the security challenges facing the state.
The Benue State Catholic Church has been at the forefront of advocacy for the victims of herdsmen attacks, providing humanitarian assistance and support to affected communities.
The prayer walk was seen as a way to mobilize public opinion and raise awareness about the plight of the people of Benue, who have suffered greatly at the hands of the marauding herdsmen.
In his remarks during the prayer walk, the Catholic Bishop of Makurdi, Wilfred Anagbe, called on the government to take concrete steps to protect the lives and property of citizens.
“We are tired of burying our people, we are tired of seeing our communities destroyed,” he said. “We urge the government to take decisive action to stop these senseless killings and ensure that our people can live in peace and security.”
The prayer walk was also an opportunity for the Catholic Church to pray for the souls of the victims of the herdsmen attacks, as well as for the perpetrators to repent and change their ways.
The church leaders and faithful prayed for forgiveness, healing, and reconciliation, and for God to intervene in the situation and bring peace to the state.
The event was attended by representatives of other Christian denominations, as well as Muslim leaders, who joined in the prayer walk and called for unity and peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians.
The prayer walk was seen as a powerful statement of faith and a call to action, and it is hoped that it will contribute to a lasting solution to the security challenges facing Benue State.
