Tinubu Disappointed over Failure of Security Agencies to Apprehend Benue Attackers

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday voiced his profound dissatisfaction with the inability of security agencies to arrest those responsible for the heinous attack on the Yelewata community in Benue State, which resulted in the tragic loss of over 200 lives.

During a town hall meeting with stakeholders at the Benue State Government House in Makurdi, the president interrogated the Inspector-General of Police regarding the lack of arrests in the aftermath of the massacre.

“Police, I trust your personnel are vigilant and attentive to intelligence. How is it possible that no arrests have been made?” Tinubu inquired. “I anticipate the apprehension of those responsible for these crimes.”

“I assure you that we will restore peace and transform this calamity into prosperity.”

Addressing the Chief of Defense Staff, Gen Christopher Musa, and other security officials, he urged them to redouble their efforts in apprehending the culprits. “Christopher, I observed your remarks, and I am aware you are relentless, even in the wilderness with Oluyede (COAS). However, we must remain vigilant and assist in capturing these criminals,” he stated.

Earlier, the president arrived in Benue State on a condolence visit following last Friday’s assault on the Yelewata community in Guma Local Government Area.

He was welcomed at the Nigerian Air Force Base in Makurdi by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia; and other dignitaries, including North Central governors, federal lawmakers, and ministers.

Following his arrival, the president proceeded to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital to offer his sympathies to the survivors.
