Tinubu Commissions Maiden Abuja Bus Terminal at Mabushi

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday commissioned the first-ever bus terminal in Abuja, marking a major step towards bringing order, accountability, and safety to public transportation.

Represented by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Tajudeen Abbas, the President expressed delight at the completion of the project, describing it as “truly transformative.”

The terminal, located in Mabushi, is one of three modern bus and taxi terminals in the Federal Capital Territory.

According to the President, the terminal represents a tangible symbol of his administration’s commitment to the safety, security, and prosperity of every resident of Abuja. He noted that the city has long grappled with the challenges of an informal transport system, leading to traffic congestion and the menace of “one chance” crimes.

With the commissioning of the terminal, the President said that citizens will no longer be left to the mercy of impromptu pick-up points. Instead, they will have a secure, well-regulated environment to board their vehicles, knowing that both the drivers and the vehicles are known and registered.

The terminal is expected to serve as a powerful engine for economic empowerment, having created over 3,000 direct and indirect jobs for the people of Abuja during its construction.

The President emphasized his administration’s dedication to job creation as a core component of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

In his welcome address, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike revealed that his administration plans to construct additional terminals in Wuye, Bwari, and elsewhere.

He noted that the real essence of the project is to enhance security by reducing the number of unauthorized vehicles on the road and eliminating the “one chance” syndrome.

The terminal will operate 24 hours a day, providing commuters with a safe and comfortable space to wait for their buses. It will also feature amenities such as food courts, restrooms, and entertainment facilities, including cinema halls where commuters can unwind.

The FCT Transport Secretariat will not operate the terminal, which will be concessioned to private operators who will run it efficiently.

The Minister thanked the National Assembly for their support in making the project a reality.

The commissioning of the bus terminal is a significant step towards transforming the public transportation system in Abuja, and it is expected to have a positive impact on the city’s residents and visitors alike.
