Iyanya Pays Musical Tribute to Benue Killing Victims
Afrobeats star, Iyanya has paid tribute to victims of the recent deadly attacks in Benue State, dedicating a heartfelt gospel song to the people of Yelewata community in Guma Local Government Area, where over 200 persons were reportedly killed by suspected herdsmen.
In a video posted to his official X account, the singer expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and prayed for divine comfort for the grieving families.
“I want to dedicate this song to all people of Benue State. It’s a trying time for the whole country because we all share your pain. I pray God comforts everybody who lost a friend or brother… God will intervene,” Iyanya said.
The tribute song, described as a soft-toned gospel piece, emphasizes faith in Christ as a constant source of strength in times of crisis. In the chorus, he sings: “He’s faithful through every season… So why would He fail now? He won’t.”
Iyanya, who hails from the South-South region, joins a growing list of Nigerian celebrities using their platforms to raise awareness about the worsening security situation in the country.
The attack in Yelewata occurred earlier this month, with villagers ambushed at night, homes razed, and hundreds displaced. Civil society groups and media reports put the death toll at over 200, although official figures remain unconfirmed.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has since visited Benue State, where he met with survivors and pledged decisive action against the perpetrators.
The Chief of Defence Staff has also directed security commanders to hunt down those responsible for the killings.
Iyanya’s tribute has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many praising him for standing in solidarity with victims and calling for more influential voices to speak up.
The singer’s message underscores the emotional toll of the violence and the role of music in fostering national unity and healing.
