INEC Rejects Notice of PDP’s NEC Meeting Over Alleged Irregularities

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rejected the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) notice for its 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for June 30, 2025, due to a procedural breach.

According to INEC’s regulations, the party’s notice lacked the joint signature of both the National Chairman and National Secretary, which is a requirement for such meetings.

The PDP had submitted the notice on May 30, 2025, signed solely by Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum. Although the notice met the 21-day notification requirement, INEC pointed out that it failed to comply with Part 2(12)3 of the 2022 Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties.

This development may disrupt the PDP’s timeline, including its planned convention in August. The NEC meeting was expected to tackle pressing party matters, such as unresolved leadership disputes and ratification of zonal congresses.

INEC’s decision highlights the importance of adhering to procedural guidelines for political parties.

In its response, INEC advised the PDP to ensure proper compliance with its rules moving forward.
