FCT Police Open Investigation Into Mysterious Death of Young Woman Found Tied in Gwarinpa Hotel

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has launched a discreet investigation into the sudden and mysterious death of a young woman, Aladi Offikwu Johnson, popularly known as Tessy, who was discovered unconscious with her hands tied behind her in a hotel room in Gwarinpa, Abuja.
According to police authorities, Tessy had checked into the hotel on 3rd Avenue in Gwarinpa on Sunday, June 16, 2025, in the company of an unidentified male guest.
Hours later, hotel staff found her lying unconscious with visible restraints, sparking an emergency response.
Despite efforts to revive her, she was pronounced dead after medical evaluation.
In an official statement, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed that the command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police CP Ajao Adewale, has ordered a comprehensive and discreet investigation into the tragic incident.
“We are committed to uncovering the truth behind this disturbing case,” SP Adeh stated. “All angles are being explored to ensure justice is served.”
She further assured the public that efforts were ongoing to identify and apprehend the male companion who reportedly lodged with the deceased but vanished before staff made the grim discovery.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about personal safety and hotel security protocols across the FCT. The police have called on hospitality establishments to enhance their internal security frameworks, including guest identification processes and surveillance measures.
“Hotels must play their part in ensuring guest safety. This includes verifying identities and monitoring suspicious activity,” SP Adeh added.
The police also advised members of the public, especially young women, to be vigilant when engaging with new acquaintances and to always inform trusted friends or relatives of their whereabouts.
Tessy, said to be originally from Benue State, was described by acquaintances on social media as a lively, kind-hearted woman with a promising future. Her death has sparked an outpouring of grief online, with many Nigerians demanding swift justice and transparency in the police investigation.
Meanwhile, forensic analysis, surveillance footage, and hotel witness statements are being examined by investigators. Authorities are also tracing digital footprints that may help identify the mystery man seen with her.
As of press time, no arrest has been made, but police say investigations are progressing and updates will be provided in due course.
The FCT Police Command has urged residents to remain calm and allow law enforcement to complete their work. They also reiterated their commitment to protecting lives and ensuring accountability in cases of suspicious or violent deaths.
This case adds to a troubling pattern of incidents involving young women in private accommodations, and public pressure is mounting for a stronger response to gender-based violence and predatory crime.
