There Is No Peace in That Airline, Oshiomhole Lambasts Air Peace Over Service Failures

Former Edo State Governor and current Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, has openly criticized Nigerian airline Air Peace, declaring that he has stopped patronising the carrier due to what he described as consistent operational failures and customer service issues.

Speaking in the wake of a controversial incident at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, Oshiomhole voiced his displeasure over what he termed the airline’s “chaotic service culture,” stating:

“Generally, I have stopped buying Air Peace because there is no peace in that airline.”

The senator’s outburst follows a reported confrontation with airline staff after he missed a scheduled flight.

Witnesses claimed Oshiomhole became visibly agitated and accused the airline of poor handling and lack of coordination, prompting a minor scene at the terminal.

Air Peace responded swiftly, condemning what it described as the “unruly conduct” of the senator. In a statement issued the following day, the airline said it maintains a zero-tolerance policy for disruptions that affect staff or other passengers, regardless of the status of the individual involved.

Oshiomhole’s comments have since reignited public debate around the service quality of Nigerian domestic airlines, particularly Air Peace, which has faced repeated allegations of:
• Chronic flight delays and last-minute cancellations
• Inadequate customer communication
• Disputes over baggage policies
• Erratic pricing and inconsistent refund policies

While the airline has continued to expand its route network and is praised in some quarters for breaking monopolies on international routes like Lagos to London, customer satisfaction remains mixed.

This is not the first time Air Peace has been at the centre of controversy involving high-profile passengers. In recent months, the airline has faced:
• Summons from the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) over refund delays and ticketing irregularities
• Backlash from passengers on social media for poor ground handling and abrupt schedule changes
• Ongoing scrutiny over its London route fare structure and service reliability

Oshiomhole’s remarks may amplify existing concerns, especially among elite and business-class travellers who rely heavily on punctual and predictable air service.

In the wake of Oshiomhole’s remarks, Air Peace has not issued a second response, but industry watchers expect the airline to either clarify its service policies or escalate efforts to defend its reputation.

Meanwhile, the senator’s public position has sparked conversations about the broader need for reforms and improved regulatory oversight in Nigeria’s aviation sector.

As tensions simmer between customers and carriers, the Air Peace-Oshiomhole standoff underscores a deeper crisis of trust in the Nigerian aviation space—one that may only be resolved through greater transparency, accountability, and improved service delivery.
