Tinubu Embarks on Sympathy Visit to Benue over Killings

President Bola Tinubu has announced that he will be visiting Benue State on Wednesday to pay his condolences to the people of the state, who have been affected by a series of deadly attacks.

The President made the announcement on Monday while commissioning the Greater Abuja Water Supply Network in the nation’s capital.

“I will adjust my programme and go see Benue people on Wednesday,” he said.

The visit comes amidst criticism from opposition leaders, including Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, who had accused the President of not doing enough to address the crisis in the state.

Benue State has been under attack by suspected herdsmen, resulting in the killing of over 160 residents in the past few weeks.

President Tinubu also used the opportunity to sympathize with the people of Benue State and those who have lost loved ones in the attacks.

He urged the people of the state to manage their diversity, anger, and frustration, and to live as one united people.

The attacks in Benue State have been attributed to inter-communal conflicts and the quest for land dominance between the indigenous agrarian dwellers and nomadic cattle rearers.

The killings have been ongoing for years, but the recent surge in violence has sparked widespread condemnation and calls for action from the government.

The President’s visit to Benue State is seen as a move to address the criticism and show solidarity with the people of the state. It remains to be seen how the visit will be received by the people of Benue State and whether it will help to alleviate the tensions in the region.

In related news, the Nigerian government has come under pressure to take decisive action to address the security challenges in the country, particularly in the North Central region.

The opposition has accused the government of not doing enough to protect the lives and properties of citizens, and the visit by President Tinubu to Benue State is seen as a test of the government’s commitment to addressing the crisis.
